For years I used a round flasher because the I couldn't find the square type. This flasher fits exactly in the bracket and, so far, is working perfectly.
Ordered as a backup unit. Disappointed they weren't made for putting under the cowl, metal covers like to ground out on metal!
I was happy that I could find one for a 1981 flh and I didn't have to cross reference the part with one built for something else.It arrived well packaged and quickly.
Just wanted to remark to those saying it burned out quickly...I wonder if it isn;lt because of the 30 yr old wiring that the flasher overheated and failed..I say that because it happened on my 87 Sporty. New handlebar switch assemblies and problem solved.
it's a flasher
Ordered two of these flashers with one to be used for backup. Installation on my 79 Sportster was straightforward as the dimensions of the relay appeared to be the same as the original. However, the first flasher lasted about two months and the second only lasted around three months.
This flasher unit died after a few months on my 79 XLH.
Fits right into the original holders.

This flasher fits perfectly inside headlight bucket, in the original bracket. The two connectors are in the same position as the original flasher too. Works great.
