I purchased the S&S Air Cleaner for my 2001 Harley Davidson XL1200 for both improved performance and for the look of the air cleaner. I am pleased to say it has worked exactly as predicted and adds to the appearance of my bike. Performance has improved slightly as has fuel economy. The air cleaner was easy to install on the stock CV carb and the workmanship of the installation materials was excellent. The instructions could have been clearer in indicating which version I was working on but once I was able to determine the correct installation instructions, the installation went smoothly and quickly. I would recommend this for anyone looking for improved performance, looks or both when intending to retain the stock CV carb.
Excellent kit. Very easy to install and has excellent instructions. Put it on in 1 hour. First tried kit 4000002, plus breather kit, plus bracket. This is a much better way to go!!!

Firstly: Excellent service from J&P. Very quick delivery - to England - within three days! The S&S teardrop filter kit, which is of excellent quality, took ages to fit. This was because I enjoyed every minute & took my time! Plus I replaced the six 1/4 UNC allen bolts with stainless ones. The only tech-tip I would pass on, is make sure you have the 'slots' correctly positioned over the stubs on the breather bolts, before bolting down and checking to see what shims you need (three pairs are provided in the kit). Is there a performance increase? Yes, I definitely think so! 85mph on the motorway, on less than half throttle. And acceleration has improved. And it looks waaaay better than the stock air cleaner which..... As I'm in jolly old England had one of those 'active intake' flap valves. A V&H eliminator plug took care of that. My Softail Slim looks proper old-school now. As an aside, I also have SE slip-ons and a V&H Fuelpak. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this kit.

It is priced right and after 30 plus years, still the best out there. You can not go wrong with this product. Installation time 1/2 hr to 1 hour depending on your mechanical ability. I absolutely recommend this kit!

Great old school look. Installation was a piece of cake especially if you watch the J&P install video on YouTube. I only found one torque specification in the install instructions. It would be nice to have a chart or diagram for all torque specs.

Nice retro look. Lets the engine breath. Takes awhile to install, but the instructions are good. Uses an adapter plate for EFI body, so it sits out a bit far.
The kit is well designed but the teardrop cover had a 1/4 long scratch in the top curve just before the S&S logo. I was not willing to let the bike sit another week waiting for a replacement so I had to keep it. I'm really not very happy about it.
