Indian Motorcycle Co. announced its top-shelf luxury touring motorcycle is back and badder than ever. The 2020 Roadmaster Elite rocks the powerful 1890cc Thunder Stroke 116 engine with a high-flow cylinder head said to be good for 126 lb-ft. of torque. Riders can regulate the amount of power the engine delivers thanks to three riding modes - Tour, Standard, and Sport. To keep heat from the big air-cooled mill in check, the 2020 Roadmaster Elite features Indian’s rear cylinder deactivation that automatically shuts off the rear cylinder when the bike is stopped.
Boom comes in the form of its 600-watt PowerBand Audio Plus system with high-output speakers in the fairing, trunk, and saddlebags. Indian’s PowerBand Audio Plus includes a nine-band dynamic equalizer that auto-adjusts for road, wind, and engine noise at different vehicle speeds. Access to these lofty decibel levels will be granted through Indian’s Ride Command, one of the most customizable infotainment systems around. The latest Ride Command runs a quad-core processor for fast boot-up and quick access to features like traffic and weather overlays which can inform riders of traffic delays, alternate routes, and inclement weather. You can also chart a ride route with up to 100 waypoints on the Ride Command website and wirelessly transfer the route to the motorcycle via Bluetooth. Additionally, there’s an Indian Motorcycle Ride Command mobile app which allows riders to monitor key data remotely.
Then there’s the paint. Indian says the paint process on the 2020 Roadmaster Elite takes more than 30 hours to complete and is finished by hand. The color scheme adorning the latest Roadmaster Elite is called Thunder Black Vivid Crystal over Gunmetal Flake and in photographs that flake is catching ever glimmer of sunlight. Red pinstripes highlight the transition between the primary colors while red badging and red pushrod tubes add more complementary splashes.
Indian continues to place a premium on rider comfort and amenities with the 2020 Roadmaster Elite. The leather two-up touring seat features individual heating controls for both rider and passenger and is one of the most comfortable perches around. Pillions will be riding in style thanks to leather armrests and their own floorboards. Heated grips are standard fare, as is a power-adjustable flare windscreen and electronic tire pressure monitoring. The 2020 Roadmaster Elite has keyless ignition and remote-locking saddlebags and topcase. And even with the new sound system the Roadmaster Elite still boasts a generous 37 gallons of storage space.
Only 225 2020 Roadmaster Elites will be made at a price tag of $38,999. Comparatively, the 2020 Harley-Davidson Limited lists for $44,039.
