Between its mini-apes, blacked-out finishes, and 9-spoke wheels, Harley-Davidson’s 2020 1200 Iron is a sharp-looking Sportster straight from the factory. But here at J&P Cycles, we don't leave anything stock. Generally when we approach a build we go all out, but for this project we made some modest changes that just about anybody can do in their garage at home with a few basic hand tools. Pretty much everything we put on this motorcycle not only enhanced aesthetics but boosted overall performance as well.

In the powertrain department, we threw on an S&S Cycle Mini Teardrop air cleaner and an S&S SuperStreet 2-into-1 exhaust. Both are CARB compliant so you can rock this combo even if you live in California. Our 2020 Sportster 1200 Iron sports a classic AMF-inspired paint scheme so the Mini Teardrop was the perfect complement. After dialing everything in with a Vance & Hines Fuelpak FP3, the Sporty definitely packs a bigger punch now.

It’s going to hug the road even better, too, thanks to the addition of a pair of Legend Suspension Revo-A Shocks. The Revo-A Shocks raise the back end a hair and provide some much-needed adjustability to the bike’s backside. The stock seat’s actually pretty good on the 1200 Iron but we still swapped it out for a Mustang Revere Journey Seat with red stitching to match the red stripes on the tank. It also gave us a chance to throw on a set of Arlen Ness MX Footpegs in red, which not only look killer but provide a wider perch for a rider’s foot. Since Ness started selling its popular parts in a variety of anodized colors, they’ve been selling like hotcakes. The stock bars were already on-point, but we couldn’t resist adding a new pair of black Arlen Ness Air Trax Grips as well.

In the lighting department, the stock incandescent signals with the orange covers just don’t cut it so we added Custom Dynamics ProBeam turn and brake signals on the front and back. The ProBeam LEDs provide much better visibility and plain look better. The addition of a new Kuryakyn Orbit LED headlight rounds out our 10 easy steps to a custom 2020 Sportster 1200 Iron.
