Aidan has a posse. It started seven years ago in Brooklyn. Now his posse stretches coast-to-coast and grows bigger every year.

Aidan Jack Seeger is the son of Bobby and Elisa Seeger. Many know the Seegers as stewards of Indian Larry Motorcycles and Genuine Motorworks. Aidan was stricken with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) at the tender age of six. He died at the age of seven.

Since then, his parents have made it a mission to save other young boys because if Aidan had been screened as a newborn, ALD is treatable and he might still be alive today. The Seegers established the Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation in honor of their son and have been working tirelessly to have children screened for ALD at birth. On March 29, 2013, Aidan’s Law was passed in New York, making it the first state to begin testing every baby for ALD. As of August, 2020, 18 states and Washington, D.C., now screen newborns for ALD.

Aidan’s Rides Across America are held at various cities around the country with proceeds benefitting the Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation (now called the ALD Alliance). Getting legislation passed to screen newborns for ALD isn’t the alliance’s only mission. It also provides financial support to families affected by ALD and helps fund ALD research as well. The need for funding is endless, making the magnanimity found at Aidan’s Rides even more important.

As Bobby Seeger would say, a bunch of characters gathered at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame for the 6th annual Aidan’s Ride Sturgis. The coffee was hot, donuts sweet, and the company excellent as friends and fellow builders rolled in from afar. Laughter filled the air at the informal gathering of misfits. The ride barely got a few blocks away from the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum before police were pulling people over. Somewhere Indian Larry is laughing. Apparently, Sturgis PD doesn’t take kindly to blocking traffic, even for benefit rides. Luckily, Sturgis PD knew ride leader and local resident Pat Garvin well, but let us go anyways. We escaped without any citations and sped away toward scenic Vanocker Canyon then on to Hill City, a cast of miscreants out raising money for ALD as Aidan’s Posse grew even bigger and stronger in Sturgis.
