The Monster has been a signature motorcycle for Ducati since its introduction in 1993. Designed by the indomitable Miguel Galluzi, the Monster has been a leading-seller for the Italian marque, achieving cult-like status among the Ducatisti along the way. Monster fans will undoubtedly love the black-on-black livery on the 2020 Monster 1200 S, a combination of gloss black on the trellis frame, upper tank and removable panel on the passenger seat and matte on the bottom half of the tank, subframe, exhaust heat shields and mufflers. The “S” should stand for sinister because the blacked-out treatment suits a motorcycle called Monster well.

Providing wheel-lofting power is a liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° DS engine that hits like a Deontay Wilder uppercut thanks to 147 hp @ 9,250 rpm and 91 ft-lbs. torque @7,750 rpm in a motorcycle that tips the scales at a fully-fueled 465 pounds. A full contingency of Ducati electronics – traction control, wheelie control, cornering Bosch ABS and multiple engine maps will help keep all that power under control. The thumping cadence of the Monster 1200 S twin will launch its attack on the auditory senses through stainless steel pipes.

A fully adjustable 48mm Öhlins fork at a tight 23.3-degree rake angle should keep turn-in quick and handling sharp. An Öhlins monoshock with progressive linkage, also fully adjustable, will help the single-sided swingarm keep the beefy 190mm backside planted. The 2020 Ducati Monster 1200 S should have no problem stopping on a dime thanks to Brembo Monobloc Evo M50 calipers clamping down on twin 330mm Brembo front rotors. Its Bosch 9.1 MP Cornering ABS works both front and back and makes the already competent braking package that much more capable.

A seat that can be adjusted between 31.30 and 32.28 inches is a handy feature. So is the quickshifter which will smooth banging up and down the six-speed gearbox. The Y-shaped, 3-spoke tires are wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires, and one of the Y’s on each wheel is sprayed a sporty red. Ducati says the “Black-on-Black” 2020 Monster 1200 S will hit USA Ducati dealerships this month with an MSRP of $17,795.
