Indian Motorcycle teased American fans of the FTR 1200 when it unveiled the FTR Rally at EICMA in 2019 because it was only available overseas. Apparently Indian has seen the light and realizes we’d love to have a scrambler-style FTR here in the States, too, as the 2020 FTR Rally is now available in the North American market and will soon be hitting Indian Motorcycle dealerships in the US and Canada.

In its scrambler form the 2020 FTR Rally runs aluminum wire wheels with stainless steel spokes instead of cast wheels and is equipped with more off-road worthy Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. Its ProTaper aluminum handlebar sits two inches higher than other FTRs and ergonomics are a tad more upright and relaxed as a result. Perched above the LED headlight is a new rally windscreen. Turn signals are likewise LED. Aesthetically, it’s outfitted with a brown aviator seat offset by Titanium Smoke paint while the Indian Motorcycle headdress graphic adorns the tank.

The rest of the Rally is de rigueur for the FTR. It’s powered by the revvy 1203cc 60-degree V-Twin that punches well above 100 horsepower. The engine is packaged in a black trellis frame and teamed to a 6-speed sliding mesh transmission. Suspension duties are tasked to a fully adjustable, inverted 43mm fork while the side-mounted rear monoshock is both preload and rebound adjustable. The FTR’s use a tubular steel swingarm with a pivot that attaches to the engine’s crankcase. You’d think Indian might bump up the travel for the scrambler version of the FTR until you realize it’s already set at a pretty generous 5.9 inches front and back. The FTR Rally has dual 320mm radially mounted discs on the front which are directly attached to the wheel with Brembo Monobloc M4.32 4-piston calipers ensuring ample stopping power. ABS is standard fare, as is cruise control and a power-assist slipper clutch.

While it doesn’t come with a skid plate, there’s more than 40 accessories in the Indian P&A catalog that fit the FTR Rally. With an MSRP of $13,499 it slots in between the base FTR 1200 at $11,999 and the up-spec FTR 1200 S at $14,499. Welcome to America, 2020 Indian FTR Rally.
