Motorcycle Batteries and Electrical Components

Motorcycles vary widely in shape and style but most have similar electrical systems. They use a stator to provide power to a regulator, rectifiers to convert that power to DC and keep the voltage under control, and a battery to store the power. Street bikes typically use three phase power stators that are larger than their off-road counterparts. With substantial power requirements, especially with upgraded lighting and accessories, street bikes benefit from a high performance stator and regulator/rectifier. If you would like more information regarding the replacement of electrical parts, J&P Cycles has a great selection of books and OEM parts manuals that will help guide you through any motorcycle electrical parts project. The number one rule of electrical safety is this: if you are working on any part of your motorcycle electrical system, always be sure to disconnect the battery before you do any work on the motorcycle. Because of the danger in electricity, we also strongly suggest that if you don’t feel very comfortable doing your own work, you should take the motorcycle to a qualified mechanic. Please feel free to call us with any motorcycle electrical repair questions. J&P Cycles has a technical team of motorcycle mechanics available online or by phone to speak with you about any repair job and offer informed advice about which products may work best for your bike. If you have any trouble with the electrical parts that you purchased, you can give us a call any time from any time zone and our technical support team will be happy to help.
