Description for Firstgear Men's TPG Rainier Black/Silver Jacket

Firstgear's, top of the line, TPG Rainier men's jacket is a waterproof and breathable outer shell with some very high tech features. TPG stands for Technical Performance Gear and it is the perfect outerwear option to add to the rider's base layers creating an optimum microclimate. The Rainier's outermost fabric is tough, yet supple, polyester laminated with a 37.5 waterproof and breathable barrier. This 37.5 laminate significantly improves the comfort and performance of this technical outerwear by using micro particles to accelerate the capture and release of moisture vapor which helps keep you cooler when it is warm, warmer when it is cool, and above all, dry. The TPG Rainier also has all the protection and details you've come to expect from FirstGear. Crash protection comes from D3O brand armor at the shoulders and elbows. This armor is CE certified to the highest level of impact protection, EN 1621-1 Level 2, absorbing up to twice the impact energy of other CE certified protectors. D3O brand EVO T5 back armor is far more supple, breathable and comfortable to wear while still being CE certified for rear impact protection. A high level of abrasion protection comes from an internal Aramid panel that starts at top of shoulder and comes down all the way to the forearm. When the weather turns wet you have 100% waterproof zippers and a hidden rain hood that fits under your helmet. Storage is never a problem with the eight pockets and two, additional, oversized pockets. Additional comfort and climate control comes from the two adjustable waist straps, four arm straps and wrist closures.

Regular Liner vs. Tall Liner

Our tall styles are for you if regular-sized shirts fit in the chest and shoulders, but the body length and sleeves are often too short. Tall Liner is 2" longer in the body & 1 ½" longer in the sleeves.

Measuring Tips

Here are some tips to help you order the correct size. If you don't have a measuring tape, use a piece of string and hold it alongside a ruler.  (for men, if you use your t-shirt size you should be right on)

Lift your arms slightly and measure around your body, crossing over the fullest part of your chest.

Measure the outside of your clothing at the waist.

Place your hand on your hip with your arm bent at 90 degrees. Measure from the middle of the back of your neck, across the shoulder, and down your arm to the wrist.

Bought this jacket for Colorado weather. It's October and the mornings have been 45 degrees and nights about 50 degrees. I wear 2 fleeces under my jacket and I have been more than comfortable at highway speeds. You feel no wind. Have yet to try it in rain. I'm 5'10" 140lbs with long arms. I bought a medium and the size was perfect for wearing under garments or heated vest/jacket or it fits just fine without as well. Scored this wonderful jacket on closeout price and its been worth every last penny so far. Oh and the quality and workman ship is nice.

This is a fantastic Jacket, protection is fantastic and hopefully never needed but it is there. I am 6'3" 230 lbs and the 2X fits great with enough room for a Hoodie or Jacket underneath. Nice venting and looking forward to many years of service

AGent on 10/1/2019

This jacket is awesome. And at $150 it’s a steal. Waterproof, windproof, pockets everywhere (one in the left sleeve?! Genius!) it’s just too bad that they’ve discontinued it. Get one now. I’m 5’7” and 160 and the medium is perfect. Snug enough on its own, still room for a couple of layers.

JAIME on 7/15/2019

Excellent jacket... thanks

DOUGLAS on 6/19/2019

Great jacket super comfortable I have not worn it in the rain yet but I presume it will do just fine :-) I wore it one night that was on the chilly side with a down sweater “ thin down jacket “ and I couldn’t of been more comfortable If the cinch straps on the arms weren’t so oversized it would’ve gotten five stars, you would have to have hulk size forearms for those straps to snug up Or maybe six layers of clothes 🤪

ROBERT on 6/6/2019

Deal of the century! Top notch jacket. Sized right - has room to layer beneath. Great features. However, at a normal price of ~$400 I would have expected a removable liner to be part of the design. Otherwise...excellent.

DOUGLAS on 5/13/2019

This was bought for a future road trip so I have not tested it at this time. However, the jacket looks to be of good quality and fits right.

GARY on 5/13/2019

Fits great and will be a safe jacket to wear in multiple weather conditions.

Brunhilde on 3/23/2019

This Ranier is awesome. Replaced 10yr old First gear that was still fully functional and waterproof but just wouldn't clean up anymore. Size M is fine for my 42" chest and 33" sleeves, with Gerbing liner; but no room for additional liner, which is fine unless sub-freezing temps. Sleeve cuffs seem weird at first, but they are very effective keeping cold air from going up the sleeve.
