2025 Triumph Rocket 3 Storm R and GT first look

Mar 19, 2024

When it comes to the Rocket 3, Triumph doesn’t believe in the concept of “too much.”

In 2020, the British manufacturer overhauled its muscle cruiser with less restraint than a preschooler armed with crayons. The measly 2,294 cc inline triple was out. A new 2,458 cc behemoth was in. That 2.5-liter monster pumped out 165 horsepower, an acceptable improvement over the outgoing model’s anemic 148 horsepower.

More is more isn’t the only lesson Triumph learned along the way. It also discovered that black is best (at least where bikers are concerned). Buoyed by the success of the limited-edition Rocket 3 R Black and Rocket 3 GT Triple Black, the Hinckley brand gave customers what they wanted: blacked-out components. They applied both lessons to the 2025 Rocket 3 Storm R and GT.

The Storm R features a 30.4-inch seat height and mid-mounted footpegs (with 0.6 inches of vertical adjustability). Meanwhile, the Storm GT benefits from swept-back handlebars, a 29.5-inch seat height, and forward-mounted foot controls (with two inches of horizontal adjustability). Triumph photo.

A glutton for performance

If you thought the Rocket 3 produced enough power, you were wrong. Both the R and GT variants gain 15 horsepower, with Triumph claiming its longitudinal triple now delivers 180 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. The listed peak torque also rises by three foot-pounds, which arrives at 4,000 rpm and totals 166 foot-pounds.

Helical cut gears and a Torque Assist clutch help the Rocket 3 effectively transmit its excessive power and torque to the ground. Triumph photo.

Triumph not only adds performance but also cuts weight. More importantly, the new 10-spoke aluminum 17-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels reduce the Rocket’s unsprung mass. That’s a welcome addition to a chassis that already includes a lightweight aluminum frame, highly adjustable Showa suspension, and Brembo Stylema front brake calipers.

The Rocket 3 Storm also maintains a premium electronics package. Lean-sensitive ABS and traction control promote safety while switchable ride modes adjust throttle response to different circumstances. Cruise control makes the Rocket 3 travel-ready. Triumph packs all that tech into a full-color TFT display.

Customers can equip the Rocket's TFT dash with an optional Bluetooth connectivity module, which enables turn-by-turn navigation as well as phone and music operation. Triumph photo.

Let’s get a good look at you

The Rocket 3 lives up to its new Storm moniker with black finishes and stealthy color schemes. Both variants offer two-toned paint jobs in Carnival Red/Sapphire Black, Satin Pacific Blue/Matte Sapphire Black, and Sapphire Black/Granite.

Triumph applies color to the top of the Storm R’s tank and to the bottom of the Storm GT's fuel cell. The passenger backrest, a different flyscreen, and other accessories on the GT differentiate it from the R. Triumph photo.

The 2025 Rocket 3 Storm R and GT will start at $24,995 and $25,795, respectively. Customers can expect both models to arrive at Triumph dealers in April 2024.
