Motorcycle Lowering Kits FAQ's

What does a motorcycle lowering kit do?
A motorcycle lowering kit reduces the bike's "seat height," which is the main goal. It does this by changing the rear suspension. The most common kits include shorter rear shocks or "lowering blocks" that change the angle of your stock shocks. This makes it easier for riders to plant both feet flat on the ground.

What are the downsides of lowering a motorcycle?
It's a trade-off. When you lower the bike, you reduce your "suspension travel," which can lead to a stiffer, harsher ride. More importantly, you reduce your "lean angle." This means you'll scrape your footpegs or floorboards much earlier in a corner, so you can't turn as aggressively.

If I lower the rear of my bike, do I have to lower the front?
It is highly recommended. If you only lower the rear, you change your bike's steering geometry, which can make the steering feel "slow" or "floppy." To fix this, you should also lower the front end by sliding the fork tubes up in the triple trees. This keeps the bike level and preserves its handling.

Will I need a new kickstand if I lower my bike?
Yes, almost certainly. After you lower the bike, the stock kickstand will be too long, making the bike stand up almost vertically. This makes it very easy to tip over. You'll need to buy a "1-inch under" or "2-inch under" kickstand to get the proper, safe lean angle back.
