Harley-Davidson blazes new ground in ADV category with Pan America Overlander

Apr 01, 2023

Harley-Davidson is following up its successful first entry in the adventure-touring category, the Pan America, by releasing an even more capable and unique version: the Pan America Overlander. The Overlander brings new features to the ADV category.

The most obvious of those features is the Camp Pak. Inspired by the Tour Pak hard luggage from Harley-Davidson's Touring models and overlanding rooftop tents used on four-wheeled vehicles, the Camp Pak is a small platform tent mounted on the back of the bike that opens into a full tent. This innovative feature allows riders to camp wherever they want, without the need for a separate tent or other equipment.

The Camp Pak isn't the only way the Pan America Overlander surpasses the competition. While the regular Pan America has a stock fuel capacity of 5.6 gallons, the Pan America Overlander holds an impressive eight gallons, thanks to auxiliary fuel tanks housed in the factory lowers. That puts the Pan America Overlander ahead of the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure's 7.925 gallons. The extra fuel is stored down low, which lowers the center of gravity for better stability, making the weight easier to handle in challenging off-road conditions, and gives the machine a range of almost 400 miles. How much adventuring can you handle?

Harley-Davidson carries on its tradition of adding premium touches to its top-of-the-line models with additional accessories. One of these is the Harley-Davidson Genuine Adventure Axe and Shovel, which are included with the bike along with a custom mount.

Concerned about all this weight, with the tent, extra fuel, and tools? That's where the self-lowering suspension that debuted on the original Pan America comes in. An option on the base Pan America, this feature is standard on the upscale Overlander. The system has been modified and beefed up to match the additional weight of the Overlander and will make it easier for riders of all inseam lengths to go adventuring with confidence.

The Pan America Overlander lists for $45,000 and is available at Harley-Davidson dealers today, April 1.
