Sissy bars were born in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s by early chopper builders. In those days, new vehicle codes required motorcycles to feature a safety bar behind the rider and passenger to support their bodies under acceleration. Disgruntled chopper freaks installed clownishly tall safety bars on their bikes to raise a metaphorical middle finger to laws they considered legislative overreach. Anyone who needed a safety bar was a “sissy” as far as they were concerned. When girlfriends told them how safe and comfortable those chrome middle fingers made them feel, bikers decided the sissy bar could stay. Today sissy bars are common as loud exhaust, and make the job of hauling people and gear a lot easier. The EXFIL Sissy Bar is Biltwell’s first in the category, and looks like no standard bolt-on sissy bar. Ruggedly constructed and beautifully chrome plated or gloss black powdercoated after hand TIG welding, the EXFIL Sissy Bar design provides a hand hold for passengers and plenty of strapping points for securing bags, backpacks, and of course EXFIL moto luggage.
