S&S Easy Start Cam Kits belong on the short list for a hot bike or any build where reliability matters. They eliminate the need to rely on compression releases, oversized batteries, or expensive high output starters. S&S designed the Easy Start cams for performance, then revised them to deliver strong power with easier starting. Each cam uses a spring loaded, centrifugally retracted compression release lobe milled into the heel of the exhaust lobe. At cranking speed, it opens the exhaust valve slightly during the compression stroke to reduce starting effort. Once the engine fires and reaches 800 rpm, the lobe moves out of the tappet roller path so the engine runs normally at full compression.
