Motorcycle Headlight FAQ's
Is an LED headlight really better than a halogen one?
Yes, by a huge margin. An LED headlight is a massive safety upgrade. It throws a much brighter, whiter, and wider beam of light, letting you see way further down the road. It also makes you much more visible to cars, day or night, and it uses less power and lasts almost forever.
Why does my new LED headlight have a big "heat sink" on the back?
This is a common misconception. While LEDs are efficient, they still produce heat, and that heat is their enemy. Unlike a halogen bulb that wants to be hot, an LED's chip must be kept cool. The big metal fins on the back are a "heat sink" designed to pull heat away from the LED chip to make it last for 50,000+ hours.
How do I aim my motorcycle headlight?
This is a critical step after installing a new headlight. The simple way is to park your bike on level ground, about 20-25 feet from a wall. The top of your low-beam "cutoff" (the sharp line) should be just below the height of the headlight bulb itself. This lights up the road without blinding oncoming drivers. Check your bike's owner's manual and light's instructions for more helpful tips and specific hardware requierments.
