Motorcycle Exhaust FAQ's

What's the difference between a slip-on exhaust and a full system?
A "slip-on" exhaust just replaces the muffler (the "can") at the end of the pipe. It's an easy, 30-minute install that's all about improving the look and sound. A "full system" exhaust replaces everything, from the engine's exhaust ports all the way back. This is a bigger, more expensive install, but it's where you get real performance and weight-saving gains.

Will a new exhaust give my bike more horsepower?
A slip-on? Not really. It's almost entirely for sound. A full system? Absolutely. A well-designed 2-into-1 or 4-into-1 system is engineered to create "scavenging," a back-pressure effect that helps pull more air and fuel into the engine, giving you a real, noticeable boost in power.

Do I need to re-tune my bike after installing a new exhaust?
For a slip-on, usually, no. Since you're only changing the muffler, the bike's stock fuel map can almost always handle it. For a full system, 100% yes. A full system flows way more air, which will make your bike run too lean. You must get a fuel tuner (like a Power Commander) to add more fuel and keep your engine safe.

Are aftermarket exhausts louder than stock?
Yes, 99% of the time, an aftermarket exhaust is significantly louder than your stock one. The whole point is to "uncork" your bike's sound. Many come with a removable "baffle" or "dB killer" insert that you can use to quiet it down a little, but you should always expect a "rowdier" sound.
